It's a tale as old as time when it comes to Disney's parade of live-action remakes of its beloved animated films (their box-office take, however, seems just fine). Much has already been said about the new "Mermaid," which stars McCarthy as the villain Ursula and singer Halle Bailey as Ariel, and how it disappoints compared to its animated original.
That can be pretty frustrating, especially once you get to the harder levels.In the 1989 version of "The Little Mermaid," the sea was a crisp blue, sea creatures could turn into functional musical instruments, ocean waves defied gravity and a flounder was huggable.īut under the sea in the 2023 remake, the ocean is dank and dark, the fish are slimy, scary and bug-eyed and the only thing defying science is Melissa McCarthy's eyeshadow, which stays immaculate underwater.
The only downside to the game that I can think of is that it gets a little monotonous after a while, and once you are dead you have to start all the way from the beginning. Every few levels you will encounter a 'boss' that you have to defeat. The gameplay is pretty simple and straight forward you run around the jungle avoiding obstacles and pesky creatures that are up to no good.Īs you progress through levels, you grow and the roar ability gets more powerfulas, as well as the paw strike. It features digitized music and speech that we all liked so much back in 1996, and it also features marvelous, colorful and fluid graphics. The cartoon was one of the best and most successful Disney's productions, and the game doesn't fall back much.
This game was made two years after the release of the well known cartoon that carries the same name.
